Frances Ogg Annual Pentathlon

The Competition
The Frances Ogg Pentathalon is one of two competitions that the club holds every year, the other being the club cross country. It is always held near the end of August.
Athletes compete in five events over two nights and medals are awarded to the first three athletes in each age group .This is calculated using the Thistle Awards Combined Events scoring system.
Athletes are also awarded points in line with the Scottish Athletics Standards which allows athletes in different age groups to be compared against one another and compared to their own age groups, to win the Trophy.
Sprint hurdles, the 100m and long jump events are held on the first evening, (usually a Thursday), with the 800m and shot putt events on the following Thursday and a barbecue to finish along with the trophy presentations.
A Brief History of the Event
Frances Ogg was the wife of Angus, who helped set up the original Constitution of Arbroath Athletics Club and served on the Committee for some years. Their daughter Katrina was an athlete at the club at the time. As the club has multi event roots, when Frances died Angus donated the `Frances Ogg Cup` in her name.
The Competition was originally run over a weekend, with male athletes doing a Decathalon, and females doing a Pentathalon.
Mr Ogg presenting previous Male Champion Joel with the trophy.
